Partner Description

Since 1995, ASD has been working to grow a stronger Appalachia through agriculture. We do that through five different focus areas: Workforce Development, Agriculture Education, Food Access, Economic Development, and Resource Management.


Agroforestry Summary

Founded in 2010, ASD's Agroforestry Department provides a number of services to help farmers adopt agroforestry practices and sell agroforestry products, including: 1) seed to sale training for both farmers and natural resource professionals through workshops, online courses, and webinars 2) peer learning through farm tours and on-farm internships with mentors 3) access to medicinal herb processing and sales services through the Appalachian Harvest Herb Hub; and 4) financial and technical assistance for agroforestry implementation

ASD offers virtual and in-person training on agroforestry, including the following: 1) Ask an Agroforester Webinars - deep-dive discussions on a variety of Agroforestry topics, presented by some of the most knowledgeable leaders in the field, with live Q&A. 2) Agroforestry Farm Tours - in-person peer learning opportunity to visit and learn from a farmer who has implemented agroforestry practices. 3) Agroforestry Trainings for Natural Resource Professionals - offers in-person workshops and online courses to technical assistance providers who work with farmers on agroforestry design and implementation.
