Agroforestry Practices

Introduction

The MU Horticulture and Agroforestry Research Farm is the primary research site for the Center for Agroforestry at the University of Missouri. This farm includes numerous experimental nut (chestnut, black walnut, northern pecan, hazelnut, ‘Bucks Unlimited’ oak) and fruit (peach, pawpaw, elderberry) orchards for breeding and horticultural research. The farm also includes alley crop and pine silvopasture demonstration plots, and legacy pine straw, windbreak, and riparian buffer sites. Farm tours and educational events, including the annual Missouri Chestnut Roast in October, are hosted regularly.
