Agroforestry Practices

Introduction

On South Farm, the Savanna Institute conducts water quality research in partnership with the Lowery Creek Watershed group. Lowery Creek is a class one trout stream thanks to the efforts of the previous and existing farmers in the area to adopt natural resource conservation practices that prevent farm field runoff from entering the water. The Savanna Institute has worked on restoring prairie and seeding pasture on the farm and removing invasive species and thinning overgrown woodlots. It has plans to do more riparian restoration to repair eroded stream banks and graze more land in the coming years.
