Introduction
I do not have an extensive background in either forestry or farming but what brought me to both and to the connection between them was stewarding the land I purchased in Meigs county, Ohio. In the ten years that I have been here I have focused on various practices like windbreak and riparian plantings, invasive species removal, building wildlife habitat and cultivating medicinal forest plants. I initially approached doing this work with a conservation mindset. I was taking care of the forest, the fields and the stream. But as I watched what started to grow in the spaces that used to be only Autumn Olive and I watched how changing land use changed what would start to flourish there, I began to understand that this was actually a collaboration and that the farm doesn’t end where the forest begins. I know that perennial food crops can benefit the world in very powerful ways so I began to collect seed and planting stock from the rich source that is already right here. That was the beginning of my agroforestry oriented nursery, Future Days Farm.
Main Agroforestry Species
Starting this coming year we will regularly have a variety of bare-root trees: Kingnut Hickories, Black Walnuts, Heartnuts, Paw Paws, Persimmons, White Oaks, Pin Oaks and Southern Red Oaks. We will also have Elderberry cuttings and potted Elderberries for sale.

Agroforestry System Design
My main nursery efforts and the Chestnut orchard are set downhill from the farm pond. Having reliable access to a good, gravity-fed water source simplifies the infrastructure and lowers the power needed to run the nursery. The majority of farm endeavors are powered by off-grid solar.
Personal or Collective Experiences
A lot of perennial forest farming practices take years to mature. This challenge is one of the factors that led to begin a nursery. While the medicinal plants are growing and the orchards are getting established, I began selling cuttings, seeds and seedlings which I will continue to do.
